About the Role:

As Principal Ore / Mineral Reserve Reporting, you will play a critical role in safeguarding the integrity, consistency, and regulatory compliance of BHP’s Ore Reserves and Mineral Reserves declarations. Reporting to the Manager, Minerals Reporting, you will act as a trusted technical authority, providing expert guidance across the business to ensure reserves are reported in line with ASX Listing Rules, the JORC Code (2012), and SEC S‑K 1300 requirements.
This role has a strong focus on underground mining, particularly block caving and other large‑scale underground methods, and contributes directly to the assurance of economic viability through the robust application of modifying factors. You will be instrumental in the design and delivery of the Minerals Reporting Assurance Plan, leading risk‑based reviews, deep dives, and targeted technical assessments across BHP’s global asset portfolio.
Working collaboratively with geoscience, mine planning, finance, marketing, and environmental teams, you will help ensure alignment between mineral inventories, mine plans, and external disclosures. You will also play a key role in strengthening the minerals reporting community by promoting best‑in‑class practices, consistency, and continuous improvement—particularly within underground operations.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the end‑to‑end minerals reporting process, ensuring full compliance with ASX and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Provide expert technical advice to Competent Persons, Qualified Persons, and subject matter experts on modifying factors, mine planning, and economic viability, with a strong emphasis on underground mining operations.
  • Develop, implement, and complete the Minerals Reporting Assurance Plan, including risk‑based reviews and detailed technical assessments.
  • Plan and lead assurance activities such as gap analyses, technical reviews, and the preparation of formal assurance reports.
  • Support the management of material risks and critical controls associated with mineral reporting, aligned with BHP’s risk framework and Three Lines of Defense model.
  • Review, validate, and verify technical information and company disclosures related to Ore Reserves and Mineral Reserves, including Competent Person Reports and Technical Report Summaries.
  • Execute structured technical verifications through assurance activities and comprehensive documentation reviews.
  • Support the Manager, Minerals Reporting in delivering annual declarations and assurance outcomes for ASX and SEC disclosures.

About You:

  • Degree in Mining Engineering.
  • Proven experience as a Mine Engineer across short‑, medium‑, and long‑term planning horizons.
  • Mandatory experience in underground mining, preferably in large‑scale operations such as block caving.
  • Previous experience preparing public reports as a Competent Person or Qualified Person.
  • Strong understanding of the JORC Code (2012) and ASX Listing Rules.
  • Familiarity with SEC S‑K 1300 requirements for mineral resource and reserve reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability to write, review, and critically assess technical reports in English.
  • Membership in a Recognised Professional Organisation (RPO).
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Highly desirable:

  • More than 5 years of experience reporting underground reserves as a Competent or Qualified Person.
  • Experience in technical risk management and assurance activities.
  • Postgraduate studies in Mine Planning.
  • Exposure to multiple deposits and commodities.
