About the Role:

As a Principal Artificial Intelligence within the Project Centre of Excellence (PCoE), you will partner with project teams across BHP’s global portfolio to identify opportunities where Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Digital technologies can create measurable business value. You will work across the full solution lifecycle, from understanding project value drivers and business processes, identifying opportunities and developing business cases, through to designing, building and deploying production-ready solutions. Success in this role requires balancing technical expertise with strong business acumen, helping teams scope initiatives, manage delivery and measure realised value against the cost and value drivers that influence capital project outcomes.

You will develop Python applications and build scalable, maintainable software using modern engineering practices, including Git-based workflows, automated testing, CI/CD, code quality tooling and sound software design principles. You will also leverage machine learning, data science, Generative AI, SQL, MLOps and cloud technologies to solve complex business challenges and support data-driven decision making.

Working closely with project delivery teams, functional specialists and BHP Technology, you will help bring innovative solutions from concept through to production and sustained business adoption. Your work will focus on improving how Capital Projects are planned, governed and executed, while creating measurable value for the business.
This role offers the opportunity to work with emerging technologies such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, prompting strategies and agentic systems, applying them in practical ways to improve project performance and business outcomes.

About You:

Non-Negotiable Requirements:

• STEM degree.
• Experience developing Python applications.
• Experience with automated testing and CI/CD.
• Strong business acumen, including project management, business cases and value realization.
• English and Spanish proficiency (B2+).
