The opportunity:

BHP is seeking a Specialist, Investment Evaluation – Transactions to join our global team in Santiago.
Reporting to the Lead Principal, Investment Evaluation – Transactions, based in Santiago, you will work in small, high-performing project teams on transactions and strategic opportunities that can shape the future of one of the world’s leading resources companies.
You will contribute to high-profile mergers and acquisitions, divestments, strategic partnerships and business development opportunities, gaining meaningful exposure to senior decision-makers and complex commercial questions across commodities, markets and geographies.
Investment Evaluation – Transactions is a global team that provides independent valuation, commercial insight and decision support for BHP’s most significant inorganic growth and portfolio opportunities. We partner with corporate development, strategy, operations, technical specialists and external advisers to bring clarity to value, risk and strategic choices in complex, high-stakes situations.

Key responsabilities:

In this role, you will:
  • Deliver financial and commercial analysis for mergers and acquisitions, divestments, strategic partnerships and business development opportunities.
  • Build, review and challenge financial models, valuation outputs and key assumptions to ensure analysis is robust, transparent and decision-ready.
  • Assess markets and transaction dynamics using comparable companies, precedent transactions, equity research, market expectations, competitor behaviour and counterparty insights.
  • Coordinate inputs across commercial, technical, financial and strategic workstreams, effectively managing dependencies, timelines and quality.
  • Translate complex analysis into concise insights, value narratives and executive-level materials.
  • Build trusted relationships across BHP and with external advisers, contributing constructively to multidisciplinary deal teams.

About you:

You bring strong analytical capability, commercial curiosity and a collaborative mindset. You are comfortable working with complex information and contributing your perspective in dynamic, high-stakes environments.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
  • Experience in corporate finance, investment banking, transaction advisory, corporate development, strategy, commercial analysis, engineering or a related field.
  • Strong analytical capability, including practical experience or demonstrated aptitude in financial modelling, valuation and transaction analysis.
  • Professional fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Commercial curiosity and an interest in markets, value drivers, investor perspectives and transaction dynamics.
  • Strong attention to detail, accountability for deliverables and the ability to perform effectively amid ambiguity, tight deadlines and collaboration across time zones.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex analysis simply and persuasively.
  • A collaborative and constructive approach, intellectual curiosity, and the confidence to challenge assumptions and contribute your perspective.
