About the Role:

Responsible for the project management of major capital investments in the Escondida Growth Program, BHP Minerals Americas. Provides delivery team leadership and direction throughout studies and the execution phase to deliver the approved business objectives, within the constraints of safety, scope, time, quality and budget. Promotes and integrates BoS and risk management as part of good project management practices.

Main functions:

  • Establish the execution strategy for studies and execution, including organisation, personnel, expertise, engineering service providers, procurement and contracting plan, construction contractors, processes & procedures and offices / site facilities etc.
  • Overriding commitment to Health, Safety, Security and Environment standards (HSE) and BHP charter values, across all project stages.
  • Manage the studies through BHP stage gates (SPS & DPS, incl. early IPS review) and governance process (IAR & IPR) to ensure project alternatives are comprehensively evaluated and the business case is fully optimized in line with KVDs (incl. throughput, recovery, cost, schedule, capital efficiency and ramp up).
  • Ensure project studies are concluded, for the execution phase, as per the statement of requirements (SOR) with a finalized scope of work, estimate, schedule, execution strategy (PES) and plan (PEP), permits, risk mitigations and commercial agreements.
  • Manage the project execution phase including engineering consultants and contractors (EPCM, EPC, Construction etc.) to ensure projects are successfully delivered in terms of HSE, scope, cost, cash-flow, schedule, handover to operations and ramp-up.
  • Implement and actively manage key project management processes in accordance with BHP requirements including: project HR (incl. mobilization), implementation of the PEP, HSS management, engineering management, contracts & procurement management, construction management, PC&A, quality management, change management, risk management, commissioning management and operational readiness.
  • Maintains effective relations with other functional departments and alignment with stakeholders including Operations, PT&E, Legal and Centres of Excellence.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or equivalent discipline.
  • Ability to work on site full time, during the execution phase.
  • Experience in mining major capital studies and large project execution, ideally including large camp construction and managing EPCM contractors.
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management experience.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to report and communicate at an executive level with senior management and Assets.
